Karen and Steffen

extend a warm welcome to Quinta Perpetua.

Quinta Perpetua – this is where we, Karen and Steffen, live, take care of our beautiful garden, our beloved three cats, the seven hens and the dog and at the same time rent three independent holiday cottages to our guests.

Quinta Perpetua, lovely managed by us, is nestled on the slope of the largest volcano of Graciosa above the south coast of the island, in the heart of nature and yet not far from the village centre of Luz.

Parts of the building form a group around a romantic patio with the diversity of its beautiful flora. You will find seating areas nearby to enjoy the garden.

Along the leafy garden, our place offers a unique and spectacular view of the sea as well as the neighbouring islands São Jorge, Faial and the highest mountain of Portugal – Pico.

Quinta Perpetua is the perfect place for everyone looking for peace and quiet – far from rush, bustle and stress.

The Quinta arose out of a traditional, azorean natural stone farmhouse and its neighbour house. One part of it has been renovated, the other one completely rebuilt.

In the process of time, this unique property arose and will be now ready to welcome guests again. Peaceful and serene, you will feel instantly at home.

Luz is the smallest of the four communities on Graciosa Island. It is situated above the south coast and the district of Carapacho even serves as a holiday destination for the local population. This is where you will find the thermal spring with an outside natural pool. The water is rich in minerals and is believed as a successful remedy for rheumatism and skin diseases.

The village centre of Luz is only a few steps away from Quinta Perpetua, where you will find a church, a huge supermarket, a post office and a small bar.

Behind the property a steep footpath will take you to the circular trail surrounding the crater rim of the caldeira from where you may enjoy a spectacular and unique view of all sides of the island as well as marvellous sunsets. Inside the volcano, which is still considered as explosive, sulfur fumaroles boil on the edge of an impressive magma chamber made of basaltic rocks which can be visited (Furna de Enxofre). In the forest, near the crater bottom, you will find perfectly equipped barbecue and picnic areas.

The closest bathing facility is in Baia de Folga – the ideal place for swimming in the old harbour basins or stop for a bite to eat in one of the restaurants around.
