Places of interest in Santa Cruz

The main town of the island and its pretty town centre offers besides Praça Fontes Pereira de Melo, two municipal churches named Igreja Santo Cristo and Igreja Matriz and the
Museu da Graciosa
.

High above, on the mountain Ajuda, is the viewpoint with the Ermida de Nossa Senhora da Ajuda and two other chapels with a view of the bullring of Santa Cruz. From up here you will have a spectacular view over town and sea.

Bathing opportunities are either directly in the village, in the local outdoor pool, or just outside Barro Vermelho with picnic facilities and sanitary facilities.

Places of interest in Luz and surrounding

Through an artificially created tunnel you get into the inside of the crater and find yourself in a lush, green, huge circle – the Caldeira.

Down there you can go even deeper into the sulfur cave Furna do Enxofre, the inside of the crater.

Or you can start walking at Quinta Perpetua and walk around the crater at its edge. From up there you can overlook the entire island and the grotto, Gruta da Maria Encantada.
Baía da Folga in Luz: the ideal place for swimming in the old harbour basins or stop for a bite to eat in the restaurant "Estrelo de Mar" and fade away.

Thermal bath in Carapacho: Bathing facilities with warm thermal pools. Massages can be booked and you will find a infrared sauna. Swim outside in the natural pool and enjoy the restaurant "Dolphin".

Graciosa: The whole world in small

There is so much you can do:

Swimming, Snorkeling, Diving,
Fishing, Sea angling, Boat trips,
Visit small towns, Drink coffee at the Praca, Go to the museum.

And what else?

The lighthouse Farol da Ponta de Barca, on the other side of the island, can be visited Wednesdays from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Near Vitória, far below, you can find a nice bathing and fishing spot.
Porto Alfonso shall be a good place to go fishing as well.

The mountain chain Serra Branca, between Ribeirinha and Luz, with the offshore wind farm offers a great view all around and the small volcanic crater of Caldeirinha.

The windmills with their red, pointed roofs in Santa Cruz, Praia and Fontes are quite nice to look at.

How about a tour of the Serra das Fontes and Serra Dormida mountain roads? From up here you can overlook the whole island, see her beauty, look out over the sea and the neighbouring islands.
